ANNOUNCEMENTS

Establishment of Department of Microbiology

The department of Microbiology is the first post graduate department in the Marathwada region where the undergraduate and postgraduate courses were run under one roof. This department ran solitary Undergraduate course till 1990. In 1991, the institute took up the herculean task of shouldering postgraduate (M.Sc.) course in Microbiology on permanent self-finance basis. Thirty two batches of PG have been successfully trained till 2023. And most of the students passed form this department has achieved success in academic and Industrial filed like, pharmaceutical, food & dairy Industry, Public health etc. all over India & abroad.

Another important achievement on the part of the department is the upliftment of the faculty. Initially the higher qualification of the faculty was Master’s degree; however during the period of 10-12 years most of teachers have achieved Doctoral Degree and have been promoted to the rank of Professors. Also the Department of microbiology is recognized as Research Centre by SRTMU, Nanded.

Microbiology Courses Offered (B.Sc. /M.Sc. /Ph.D.)

B.Sc. Microbiology as Optional Subject (Three Year Course with VI Semesters)
Eligibility: A candidate who has passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Pre-University.

M.Sc. Microbiology (Two Year Corse with IV Semesters)
Eligibility: A candidate who has passed B.Sc. degree with Microbiology as one of the optional subject.

Ph.D Microbiology (As per S.R.T.M. University, Nanded Norms)

 Graduate Course in Microbiology (B.Sc.)

Students of the B.Sc. Microbiology programme will be enriched with the knowledge and understanding of the different disciplines of Microbiology such as Medical Microbiology, Applied microbiology, Immunology, Microbial Genetics to name a few. Students will become aware of the significant roles microorganisms play in maintenance of a clean and healthy environment in addition to know their role in plant, animal and human health and diseases. Students will be trained to utilize scientific logic as they explore a wide range of existing subjects spanning various aspects of basic microbiology. B.Sc. Microbiology students will gain knowledge of various biotechnological applications of microorganisms and will learn of industrially important substances produced by microorganisms. At the end of the graduation program, students will be able to exhibit the basic laboratory skills such as aseptic and pure culture techniques, prepare and view samples for microscopy, use appropriate methods to identify microorganisms, estimate the number of microorganisms in a sample, and use common lab equipment

 Post-graduate Course Microbiology (M.Sc.)

Students of the M.Sc. Microbiology programme will acquire and demonstrate proficiency in good laboratory practices in a microbiological laboratory and be able to explain the theoretical basis and practical skills of the tools/technologies commonly used to study this field. Students will develop proficiency in the quantitative skills necessary to analyze biological problems. The course requires effective presentation of experimental observations, results and obtained data through seminars, which will also develop their ability of critical thinking, reading and analyzing scientific literature, by which after completing the degree Post-graduates in Microbiology will develop strong scientific oral and written communication skills, which can groom them towards research in the future. The students post-graduating in M.Sc. Microbiology degree will be guided to build appropriate skills of Microbiology so as to perform their duties as microbiologists. Students will be introduced with the concepts of research in microbiology, inculcate sense of scientific responsibilities and build-up a progressive and successful career in Microbiology.

 MoU for internship

Department of Microbiology, Dnyanopasak Shikshan Mandal’s College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Parbhani (M.S.) signed an agreement with  GREEN VITALS BIOTECH, located at Ranje-Arvi, Pune (Maharashtra) and  RUCHI BIOCHEMICALS, Gondia (Maharashtra) for offering internship to post-graduates students of the Department.

Ph.D. Degree Programme

During the tenure of PhD. research scholars will develop the skills to think independently, plan research and execute it in different fields of Microbiology. They will be empowered to make an impactful contribution in the field for the development of nation as a whole. Research Scholars of Microbiology programme will be informed citizens who can understand and evaluate the impact of new research discoveries in the life sciences, and will be able to pursue a wide range of careers, including biological and medical research in higher education institutions as well as careers in public and global health, scientific writing, environmental organizations, and food, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology industries.
